Fact-finding mission on Internet Freedoms: Assessing Fundamental Freedoms Online during the 2024 General Elections in Indonesia

On 30th of May, ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights conducted a roundtable discussion with the mission aimed at gathering information to evaluate the risks to basic rights during the 2024 national elections in Indonesia, with a particular focus on the impact of current policies and their execution, resulting in government-led online censorship and surveillance, as well as the involvement of digital platforms. Besides that, the objective is to identify essential suggestions for parliament members, civil society organizations, social media companies, and other stakeholders to promote a secure cyber environment for the upcoming general election. Researcher at CSIS Politics and Social Changes Department, Noory Okthariza, was present and shared about Safer Internet Lab’s initiative to do research on platform governance.
